I'm taking it easy this week because it's my column and I say I can. Is that cool with you? I hope so.

I do want to talk about a couple things, and then I'll get just to the expanded Shipping List this week. There's a shit load of cool stuff coming out. I've got eight pre-ordered things alone, which is a lot for a not-the-last-shipping-week-off-the-month week.

First up, Chris Arrant, a dude who's work I usually enjoy took some time and talked to Rob (1000 STEPS TO WORLD DOMINATION) Osborne about his new book called SUNSET CITY: For Active Senior Living.

It not only has one of my favorite book titles (right behind 1000 STEPS TO WORLD DOMINATION and SKY APE: King of Girls) but it's story, about a senior citizen who "takes life by the balls" is captivating.

I'd really like to know this story. I'd like to read about this man. It's coming from AiT/Planet Lar this fall, most likely October, and I can't wait for it. Osborne is one of the smartest new talents around.

Likewise, Newsarama has the new press release from Larry Young and Co. about Young and artist Jon Proctor's new book, BLACK DIAMOND. The book, which hits stores today, is shipping with a 50% over-ship to retail venues free of charge.

Not only are the books free, but AIT is picking up the shipping charges, too, which is where the real cost is for retailers. This is a typical move by AIT as well as a welcome one. And like before, here's the link. Read more about BLACK DIAMOND below.

Most importantly, here’s a press release from Terminal Press about the new Ken Knudtsen book. Knudsten, as you all know, is the master-mind behind MY MONKEY’S NAME IS JENNIFER, one of the best books to come out in the last decade. His new book is a full color, 48 page prestige format flipbook with RUFUS & CLEVELAND on one side and CROWPSEY on the other.

I don't know a lot about the books, but Knudsten is a hilarious guy, so this is a must. You want to read about it? Here you go.

Finally, over at the, Isotope Virtual Lounge, Fabio Moon is pimping his new project, GUNNED DOWN, a western anthology. It's being produced by Terra Major, a publishing house I'd never heard of, but it looks really nice. The book showcases Moon and his brother Gabriel Ba (the two of them did the stellar URSULA book last summer for AIT) as well as some talents who have only appeared in Brazilian comics, as well as a few who are new to printing altogether.

The book advertizes ten stories for ten bucks, and the Terra Major site has some preview stuff, so it's worth a look.

Then, there's a short preview of the upcoming Fabio Moon OGN, SMOKE AND GUNS and then two pages from Matt Fraction and Steve Sanders' full color OGN FIVE FISTS OF SCIENCE. That's sweet. We're in for a good time.

While not one of the best things I read, I thought the first issue of NYC MECH: BETA LOVE was charming in its own way. It’s slice-of-life tale told with Mech robots. The robot bus driver picks up a robotic chick that holds all of the robotic bus passengers hostage while they take a little joy ride. It’s a nice change of pace, I think. Then, there’s the covers by Eric Canete and they are gorgeous.

After seeing how well the pre-INFINITE CRISIS books were selling (OMAC, RANN/THANAGAR WAR, etc.), DC rush-solicited this 96 page book with full, lead-in issues of FLASH #219 and WONDER WOMAN #214 as well as relevant pages from two dozen other books. Here, you can catch up with all the bits and pieces that you missed without having to read all the issues themselves. That’s excellent. Nice job, DC.

I’m diggin’ the Grundy stuff and the Preacher angles. Frazier Irving is kicking out some awesome artwork, too. I love the white accents on the edges. And it’s Morrison’s take on Goth Amish Warlocks, which I really think is an untapped market.
