From
the PopImage Staff.
PopImage is going from strength to strength, and this month
we present our best issue yet. The star of our February PROFILE
is Jill Thompson, creator of SCARY GODMOTHER and artist
on FINALS, SANDMAN, and THE INVISIBLES. Check
out our extensive interview, and take a look at her evolution
as an artist. We also have a special insight into the characters
Jill has inspired.
In ATTITUDE we have
columns on pulp fiction, movie adaptations, and the possible ramifications
of the AOL-Time Warner merger, plus a feverish rant from comics
writer Andrew Dabb. Mr Dabb and his HAPPYDALE co-conspirator
Seth Fisher also turn up in our INTERVIEWS
section, along with peachy Donna Barr, chewy Sean Phillips, and
filthy Laura DePuy. We also speak to movie mogul David Goyer,
and DC marketing director Patty Jeres.
In INDUSTRIAL, filmmaker
Francis Lord continues his peek behind the curtain, and Marc Deering
brings us the second part of 'Show Don't Tell'. THE WAITING
PLACE's Sean McKeever shares some crucial advice on being
a comics retailer, Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming
preview their new Image series POWERS, and we take you
into the strange mystery world of the editor to ask, "what is
it they do, anyway?". Our Cherry this month is Howard Cruse's
STUCK RUBBER BABY.
GUTTER PRESS features
a Six of One interview with Rick Veitch, the official soundtrack
for SHIP OF FOOLS, and a look at the role of the death
god in comics. We explain the relationship between comics and
superstring theory, we find out how easy it would be for a superhero
to hold down a job in his secret identity, and we give you the
skinny on becoming a real-life John Constantine. In Pi
COMICS, Steve Stegelin continues his unique commentary
on modern life in the excellent BOONDOGGLE, and we take
a look at the online comic JONNY NITRO.
Our REVIEWS section
includes reviews of Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell's FROM HELL,
Paul Pope's HEAVY LIQUID, and Kurt Busiek and George Perez's
Ultron saga in AVENGERS. There's classic seventies Batman
in STRANGE APPARITIONS, Vertigo noir in SCENE OF THE
CRIME, and prepubescent trauma with BARRY WEEN. We
also have our First Impressions round-up of the January debuts,
and a retrospective look at CEREBUS: HIGH SOCIETY, plus
much more besides.
Our cover this month is courtesy of the excellent Eric Canete.
Stay tuned to PopImage to find out how you can buy this original
work of art, plus works by Brian Wood, Bryan Talbot, and Michael
Avon Oeming, with all proceeds going to the Comic Book Legal Defense
Fund. If you have any comments to make about this month's PopImage,
check in at our FORUM,
or drop us a line.
