081500: PopPreview- AVIGON
Jimmie Robinson bring's Che Gilson's dark world to Image.
Coming this October is a very cool new stand alone graphic novel, AVIGON, from Image Comics. It's a very different type of story, that will definately appeal to fans of books like GLOOM COOKIE and I FEEL SICK. Probably the most interesting part of the book is how it came into existence. Originally written and drawn as a series of Mini-Comics by California artist Che Gilson, AVIGON is actually an adaptation of that series by CYBERZONE and EVIL & MALICE creator Jimmie Robinson. The story goes that Jimmie and Che were long-time friends, and Che having some wrist surgery prevented her from writing, and completing her story. Jimmie, who was really taken with the story, just started adapting the story, and about half-way in called up Che to tell her about it, and see what she thought. She must have liked it, because this October you can pick up Avigon from your Local Comic Shop. Having seen the artwork, I don't think there was ever a chance she wouldn't... :)
A slight caveat... I was lucky enough to be the colourist on Jimmie's last series from Image, THE ADVENTURES OF EVIL & MALICE. On top of that, I think Jimmie is probably the nicest guy in all of comics, so I'm probably not what you would call "un-biased" in my activism. That said, the book really does look great, and I hope you'll pick it up.

Avigon has a problem.
She's trapped in a gothic world where androids are sold like cattle, dark clouds hide the sun, and the rivers run black with oil. Avigon needs to escape, but how, and to where?
Avigon is in trouble.
Cast into new worlds beyond imagination, while plunging deeper into her darkest secrets, Avigon has to find a way out, no matter the cost?
Avigon's only chance is in a strange distant city. But can Avigon keep her secret past from destroying her new life and a hopeful future?
Join Che Gilson's twisted universe of the baroque, and Jimmie Robinson's meticulous artwork of the surreal in AVIGON. Avigon is set in an industrial world, with a twist of Tim Burton's NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and a heavy dose of Japanese anime.
This book is recommended for readers and fans of SANDMAN, KABUKI, GLOOM COOKIE, and the works of Johnen Vasquez.

Avigon will be availible this October from all finer comics retailers. However, take this opportunity to pre-order AVIGON at your local reader. Use Previews Item Code AUG001178, and make sure to talk to your retailer about the book. Jimmie Robinson can be contacted at JimmyKitty@mac.com
