RANDOM THOUGHTS
And away we go.

GROUPIES

Seems to me that hip thing to do these days is to take a comic and "aim" it at a certain group. Like supposedly "adult" or "mature" comics (Preacher, Transmetropolitan, etc.), all age comics (Evil and Malice), and "girl" comics (Cathedral Child, Action Girl.)

Okay, don't get me wrong; this is a great way to get an audience. "This book is especially good for you (speaking to any NUMBER of demographic groups). Thing is, that's all they are. Demographic groups. Doesn't mean they will like what is aimed at them. Not at all.

One of my best friends, Vix, reads Transmet. Hell lives off Transmet. Then again she is not your traditional girl. Ask her boyfriend. Not the most mature person either. I mean a 13 year old has shown up on Warren Ellis' forum, talking about how he or she likes Transmet. Cool, isn't it?

My mom, latest in a line of strong English women, strong fan of Red Dwarf, Doctor Who, crumpets, Tea, and Newcastle Ale, liked Clockwork Angels. "Very cute. She did a good job." Were her exact words actually. ... And last I talked to her she was pretty adult.

All age comics quickly vanish from the stands, not because they are sold out, but because they are not sold. Why? Because many people veer away from "all age" stuff, for fear of puppy dogs and ice cream.

So why aim comics at a group at all? Just write the damn story, and see how it goes. See whom it sells too.

Revolutionary thought isn't it?

EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

The new era of comic book coloring. It's just awesome.

Hell. Not just coloring. That word doesn't fit. I guess the proper term would be "effects". Laura Depuy created three pages in Planetary 6. That's right. CREATED THREE PAGES. John Cassidy only drew the shape of the panels on two of them. One he had nothing to do with. Amazing isn't it?

Check out the cover to Crimson 14. Bad@$$ does this wicked blue light streak affect, which reflects off of everyone in the scene, creating a magical ambience in the air. Beautiful.

Simply amazing. Everyone doesn't do work like this because???

DISCLAIMER

I didn't throw this in last time cause I was too lazy. Comments about things posted here? Want to shoot me for speaking out against the things that you love most? Mail bombs?

PopImage has a forum. You know it. I know it. Go there. Speak your mind. Learn to hate me. Learn to love me. Send me some cash (I have to pay for school somehow).

I know will.

Except for sending you cash.
