Preview-Wahoo Morris
by
Marc Bryant.
Welcome
back to Pop Preview, where each month, we're taking a sneak peak
at an upcoming title, giving you the 'heads up' on cool new books
you might've otherwise missed out on. This month we're checking
in with WAHOO MORRIS previously self-published by writer/artist/creator
Craig Taillefer, and 'rebooting' this spring, under the Image
Central banner.
Craig
Taillefer has been working professionally in comics for six years.
He got his start inking various ELFQUEST titles for WaRP
Graphics, and later switched to pencilling. "I contributed
a few stories to the late MYTHOGRAPHY from Bardic Press,
but WAHOO MORRIS is my first major work." (And a major
work it is, receiving kudos from none other than Garth Ennis!"
WAHOO
MORRIS is the story of indie rock band Wahoo Morris and the
cast of characters that gravitate around the group. It is a realistic
contemporary slice of life drama, mixing everyday life and the
rock and roll underground, with some comedy and a touch of the
occult thrown in for good measure.
"I
can't say for sure where I got the idea from. My own experiences
playing in bar bands has lent a touch of realism to the series,
but the idea just grew in my mind until it took over."
As
far as the origin of the title of the comic and the band it's
named for "I can't tell you where the name came from - I'm saving
that for the right time in the book!"
One
of the strong points of WAHOO MORRIS is the eclectic cast
of characters.
Alicia
is the band's shy and quiet lead singer. Her interest in the occult
is causing some strange things to occur
Sebastien
is the bands lead guitarist and main songwriter, though a bit
of a slacker. He has developed an interest in Alicia that is not
in the group's best interest.
Chas
is the irrepressible bass guitarist and driving force behind the
band. She and Sebastien have been friends since they were kids,
and he has trouble seeing that her feelings for him are more than
friends.
Arnie
is the band's drummer. He serves as the quiet voice of reason
in the diverse group as well as class clown. Be sure to ask your
retailer for WAHOO MORRIS #1. You can check out the whole
issue, online at www.wahoomorris.com.
