Reviewed by Arni Gunnarsson THE X-DIRECTORY published by Knockabout Comics in 1997 is a collection of only a few of these stories and will also be in the new collection. What this 32-page issue contains are stories by some of the best and brightest in the world of comics today. Alan Moore writes 'Cold Snap,' a tale of the end of the Jurassic era. Neil Gaiman takes a different look at God in 'Sloth' and then answers a question every interviewer asks a creator in 'An Honest Answer.' Lucy Swan wraps up the guest writers with 'Celtic Warrior,' a 2-page dream. Talbot himself writes and illustrates 4 short stories: 'Smokey Bears,' a tale of washed-up dope starring Chester P. Hackenbush, the psychedelic alchemist who has been immortalised by Alan Moore in SWAMP THING as Chester Williams. In 'Arnold Gets Gross,' a couple's car breaks down on a deserted road. 'Evolution?' is a comic look at what one does when one is past deadline and needs a 2-page story. And finally 'Spill It!' a 1-page strip where Talbot makes fun of himself. THE X-DIRECTORY is a great introduction to Talbotīs underground work and is an indicator of what the BRAINSTORM COLLECTION contains.
