PopImage's resident interrogator Mr Six submits TOO MUCH COFFEE MAN creator Shannon Wheeler to the harsh glare of his spotlight of truth.
Coffee. A great way to start the morning donīt you think? Shannon Wheeler certainly does, and though his book goes by the name TOO MUCH COFFEE MAN, it ain't all about ground beans. Described as "the sum total of the conflicted, contradicted, cynical idealist of today's aging Gen-X'ers", it's hero TMCM is out to solve the world's problems, albeit never without a cup of steaming coffee in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Shannon, however, is more down to earth, so when he isn't wearing the red, coffee-mug headed costume, he lays plans as to how he will conquer the animation industry with his alter-ego and four cups of coffee a day.

6: Who is your favorite drug-addled author?
SW: PK Dick, no question. L Ron Hubbard runs a close second.
6: Which sales gimmicks really turn your stomach?
SW: The new ashcans with unfinished art. Limited edition 'prints' that are really photocopies. Anything where people tell you that it's going to worth money.
6: Jim Shooter; Missunderstood or spawn of hell?
SW: I didn't know Jim Shooter was working on Spawn.
6: Which is the best comic-inspired movie, by your standards?
SW: THE MATRIX. If that counts. I liked MYSTERY MEN, but my expectations were pretty low.
6: If there were a Comic Olympics, what event would you be in?
SW: The stupid race. You've got to be pretty dumb to get into comics.
6: Who's your favourite giant monkey?
SW: The monkey king in the Sinbad movie.
6: Hangover remedy of choice.
SW: Sauna or hot bath, aspirin, and a bloody mary.
6: When was the last time drugs excited you?
SW: Last time I had a hangover (the aspirin).
6: Most underrated comic creator?
SW: HEY MISTER is a great comic and not many people know it.
6: How do you feel your current work adds to the comics industry?
SW: I'm the guy people refer to when they talk about indy comic creators selling lots of comics without selling out. Then they say, 'yeah, but he's got a great gimmick'.
6: Favorite background music you use when you work?
SW: Yma Sumac. Mambo.
6: What would you do to a fanboy who got on your nerves?
SW: I usually just smile and I try and be polite.
6: Least favored place on earth?
SW: My armpit. Favored? I thought you said flavored.
6: How much coffee do you drink and what is your favorite?
SW: I drink just enough, sometimes too much. My favorite is that first cup in the morning. It's the cup the carries you from feeling shitty to feeling good. I know that you meant what's my favorite bean. But really, it's the moment and the feeling. Each cup is different. You can drink a cheap crappy cup of coffee and it can be the best thing in the world if it's what you need at that moment.
6: What is your dream project?
SW: Sleeping.
