COMMENT: Welcome to PopImage!
"Beautiful, only slightly mental. Beautiful, only temperamental."
Hi there, my name's Christopher Butcher. I'm the Editor In Chief of PopImage, welcome to the first weekly installment of PopImage.
PopImage.com is a web-magazine that discusses comic books. We do this through editorial commentary, feature reporting, interviews, previews, reviews, and more. We endeavor to contain the most thorough and comprehensive comics coverage online, spanning the mainstream, alternative press, mini comics, foreign editions, web comics, the whole nine yards really. The PopImage staff regard the comic form with a great level of respect, and we try to communicate that respect through informed and reasoned commentary. That doesn't mean we don't have a little fun with you now and again, mind ;).
What can you expect to see on PopImage? Well, that's sort of a constantly evolving process. New features all the time, features get phased out. We're a pretty turbulent little magazine at times, but the only thing that hasn't really changed is the level of effort put into every issue. If anything, I think that's only gotten stronger as the months have continued on. I mean, we're on our third re-design since October, if nothing else that proves that we're at least constantly trying to improve, heh. Speaking of our re-design, we have the talented Matt Fogel to thank. Working with previous designs and input from Alasdair Watson, Antony Johnston, Chad Riden, and myself, we think we've got the nicest looking version of the site yet. Thanks also go out to the very cool and very talented Jose Villarubia (Promethea, Veils). He created the digital illustration that Matt incorporated into the header up there. Looks cool neh? Feel free to comment on the new design by clicking on that little "comment on this article" graphic to the left. We want to hear your feedback on everything here, from design to the content. Make sure to contact us.
Speaking of our content, I think it's generally top notch. I mean, alongside our regular acclaimed comics features BOONDOGGLE and RUST, we're running cool POWERS strips by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, and the ultra-cute PUPPYDOG TALES by 'lil Lethargic Lad creator Mike White. Plus, we've got scads of new comics debuting over the next few weeks by both new and pro creators alike. Very cool.
Plus, it's actually our biggest month for content yet. Originally, we were trying to scale back a bit for June, you know? Keep things manageable. Yeah, that didn't work. See, we got a cool opportunity to do some stuff with Oni Press, so we've got previews of BREAKFAST AFTER NOON and interviews with Jamie Rich and Andi Watson. Then I wanted to do some X-Men articles, because of that X-MEN movie you might've heard of. So we've got interviews with Fabian Nieceza, Joe Casey, and our Profile interview with that Stan Lee guy at the end of the month. Not to mention a bunch of very cool articles on the x-books, beginning with Pindaros' look at the careers of several artists who rose to fame on the X-Books. Despite all of this, we couldn't let our regular features and coverage suffer, so we've got your favorite fun features making a return, like BEYOND, POP ROCKS, and a Pop Preview of James Kolchaka's new Graphic Novel, MONKEY VS. ROBOT. Reviews is no slouch either, with tons of reviews of trade paperbacks new and old. Too many to list here, obviously. Heh.
So in short, I hope you enjoy your time here at PopImage.
Before I go though, I'd like to just take a moment and thank some of the people without whom this site would not be possible. From our inception to our current incarnation, there have been a lot of influences and ideas that have gotten us to where we are today. We wouldn't be here without them. So, thanks to Alasdair Watson, Andrew Wheeler, Arni Gunnarsson, Ben Peek, Matt Fogel, Greg Dickens, Antony Johnston, Larry Young, Brian Wood, Johanna Draper-Carson, Laura Depuy, Mike Tymczyszyn, Daniel Goodbrey, Chad Riden, Marc Bryant, Rick Beckley, the Tarts, Jonah Weihland, Mal Jones, the folks at 212.net, and of course Mr. Warren Ellis for providing all of us angry bitter types somewhere to gather online to plot our world domination.
Enjoy,
Christopher Butcher, on behalf of the PopImage Staff.
