ACTIVISM: COMICS 4 KIDS
Support
the charity that supports comics for sick kids.
Greetings.
I have
an important announcement, so please pay attention. This year I want
you to do something different with your comics, give them away.
That's
right, give them away. Not as presents or in exchange for sexual favors,
but rather, give them to children.
This
is how it works. Go to your retailer of choice and set up a little
charity; a bunch of people bring in comics and/or toys and/or magazines
and add them to a pile, which, sometime in the week before Christmas
will be donated to the children's ward of the local hospital of choice.
Now
how do you get people involved?
A raffle.
When someone donates something their name is entered in a raffle to
win a prize pack of, your choice. Whether the store puts up the prizes
or you do doesn't matter.
O-kay,
but how do I get a retailer involved?
Easy.
Advertising. When you show up with that pile at the hospital, whose
business card do you think will be attached? Plus it's easy to slip
in a flyer for their store if they want, to promote the store, or
to promote their Boxing Day sale, or if you drop it off in time, you
can influence parents as to where to pick up their kids' Christmas
presents. Hell, write Pokemon on the page somewhere and it's gold.
It's also a great way to clear out those bargain bins.
The
Rules:
First
off, they are children remember? So be sensible. Only appropriate
reading material should be submitted. Use your own judgment as to
what is and isn't appropriate. All comics, magazines, and toys donated
should be in good condition as well. Comics and magazines that come
in with covers not intact and toys with one arm missing should not
be submitted. Any additional rules are up to the host of the raffle;
including number of items required for an entry in the raffle, number
of items required for a second entry into the raffle, whether
or not there should be a special prize for the person who donates
the most, etc.
Comic
readers - donate, and get others to donate as well.
Comic retailers - help set it up.
Comic creators - throw in a sketch, signature, script, etc.
for the raffle to help influence involvement.
Do what
you can to help out. We hope to make this an annual event, involving
as many people around the world as possible. Now is as good a year
to start as any.
There
will be more info as we approach the holidays.
You want
to help the industry, Do Something.
Sincerely,
Jonathan
